Emergency Dental Services

If you are encountering a dental emergency, Pickens Family Dentistry can help.Taking good care of your teeth should be an important part of your daily life. You should take the time to brush your teeth twice daily at least, and make sure that you floss regularly. You should also come in and visit us regularly to ensure that your teeth are in good shape and your oral health is optimal. With that said, sometimes you might find yourself in an emergency situation where you need dental help as quickly as possible. When that happens, Pickens Family Dentistry can help. You should contact us immediately to let us know what has happened and what we can expect when you arrive. Additionally, take a look at the tips for emergency dental care below.

Broken or Chipped Teeth

When your teeth are broken or chipped, first take a moment to wash out your mouth with warm water, then wrap the tooth fragment (if you have it) in a wet washcloth or wet gauze. Call us immediately and come in with the tooth fragment so that we can attempt to reattach it or investigate it for any signs as to what happened (if the damage wasn’t caused by trauma).

Tooth Pain or Toothache

If you have a toothache, you should contact us as quickly as possible. This is especially true if the pain came out of nowhere and is significant in nature. This could indicate an infection or otherwise serious issue that demands our full and undivided attention. Do not hesitate! Too many patients wait to see how their teeth will feel in a few days rather than coming in right away, and this only gives the issue time to fester and become worse.

Loose or Knocked Out Tooth

This is one of the most serious issues we encounter. If you have a knocked-out tooth, you need to get to our offices immediately. If you can reinsert the tooth, do so. That means taking the tooth by the crown with a clean piece of gauze and gently placing it into the tooth socket. If this is not possible for some reason, then put the tooth underneath your tongue. Do not remove any tissue or attempt to scrub the tooth for any reason, and do not put it anywhere other than under your tongue. The faster you get to us, the more chance we have to save the tooth and your natural smile.

Broken or Fractured Jaw

If you break or facture your jaw, you need to seek care immediately. If our offices are not open, then you should visit the emergency room right away as a broken jaw can have significant ramifications for your health. A jaw that is broken and swollen, for example, could begin to restrict your ability to breathe or even just open your mouth. Call us right away and visit your local hospital if we are not open.
